SOUTH BEND — The Redevelopment Commission voted 5-0 Thursday in favor of a request by the Department of Community Investment to advertise for the sale of Blackthorn Golf Course.

The minimum bid for the 180-acre property, in the Blackthorn Development Area north of the airport, has been set at $1,655,000 based on the average of two separate, independent appraisals.

According to the bidding documents, the property must remain a championship-level golf course open to the public and may not be purchased for speculation or land holding purposes.

Chris Fielding, director of business development for the city, said several parties have already expressed interest in the property based on media coverage of the sale.

He said he expects at least two buyers to participate in the bidding process.
