A record number of recent high school graduates made Indiana University Kokomo their campus of choice for the fall 2014 semester.

Of the 4,180 students registered, 467 are recent high school graduates, an increase of approximately 11 percent. Almost half of these new students earned Indiana honors diplomas.

“I am very pleased to see our freshman students have made IU Kokomo their campus of choice. Also, it’s exciting to see an increase in full-time students and those with academic honors,” said Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke in a press release.

Seventy-six percent of degree-seeking undergraduates enrolled full time, which is a 3.6 percent increase over last year and another campus record. Students are taking a 39,590 credit hours, another all-time high.

Other remarkable growth includes:

• Minority population up nearly 11 percent, including an increase of 20 percent for Hispanic students and 9.7 percent for African-American students; and

• A 23 percent increase in international student enrollment, with a record-setting 54.
