A popular sandwich shop has reopened after remodeling and expanding near Ball State University.

The owner said his businesses’ growth doesn’t stop with his expansion in the Village, but also includes plans for another Muncie location in a recently-vacated commercial space on the city’s northwest side.

Jimmy John’s on Martin Street near University Avenue was set to reopen Thursday after weeks of remodeling that saw its interior greatly expanded.

Steve Arnold — who owns the Martin Street and McGalliard Road Jimmy John’s locations — said a variety of construction issues delayed his plans to reopen his Village restaurant from mid-August to Thursday.

The restaurant was expanded from 1,300 square feet to 2,300 and new tables and booths increased seating capacity from 22 to 58.

The work was going on while the Village area was seeing a lot of construction. The $60-million Village Promenade apartment complex opened across University Avenue. First-floor commercial tenants including the Brothers sports bar and grill, Domino’s and other food purveyors are due to open around the time of Oct. 10 homecoming activities at Ball State.
