Sandra Farber remembers sitting in the back seat of a car with her sister “while our father went into some garage in New Jersey.”

Her father, John J. Farber, rented that garage and started Primex Plastics.

That was in 1965.

On Thursday, the John J. Farber Technology & Innovation Center was dedicated in Richmond, site of the company’s headquarters and largest manufacturing facility.

Father and daughter were among the family members present for a luncheon, ribbon-cutting and tour of the center.

“I am very impressed and very honored by this event,” said John J. Farber, exuding pride in the company, which has grown from its modest beginnings to a multimillion-dollar enterprise with 1,100 employees and plants in New Jersey, Nevada, Georgia, Wisconsin and County Durham, England.

Primex in Richmond covers 1.2 million square feet and employs 350. A subsidiary, Woodruff Corp., employs another 50.
