SOUTH BEND — The feasibility study results are in.

Ivy Tech Community College officials say they received mostly positive feedback and insight about how the school's proposed culinary arts center could become a successful and permanent attraction in downtown South Bend.

Many local business and community leaders, as well as restaurant owners, agreed the project could prove to be a “game-changer,” especially with the increased number of students, faculty and staff that would be part of an expanded downtown culinary arts program, according to a release from Ivy Tech.

The culinary arts center is proposed at the former College Football Hall of Fame site.

Many respondents said the Culinary Arts & Food Education Center, or CAFE for short, could prove to be an ideal partnership with the city of South Bend and downtown businesses to further develop it into a foodie destination, Ivy Tech said.

Some restaurateurs added that the expanded program could improve the quality of standards and service at restaurants across the community.
