The Jimmy John's restaurant on Creasy Lane in Lafayette is one of about 216 stores nationwide affected by a widespread data breach, the sandwich shop chain announced Wednesday.

Customer credit and debit card information was compromised after the sandwich chain's computerized cash registers were accessed remotely using stolen log-in credentials.

Only those cards physically swiped inside affected stores during certain time frames were affected, according to a statement from the company. Data entered manually or online remain secure.

Forensic investigators determined that the breach affected data from the Creasy Lane store for transactions from July 1 through Aug. 2. The other four Jimmy John's locations in Greater Lafayette were not affected.
