MUNCIE – A veteran Muncie newspaper executive will help lead Indiana newspapers into the digital future.

Cheryl Lindus, who began her newspaper career in Muncie in 1983, has been named vice president of the Indiana Media Group, which oversees The Star Press in Muncie, The Journal & Courier in Lafayette and The Palladium-Item in Richmond. The newspapers, like The Indianapolis Star, are owned by The Gannett Co.

Lindus, most recently director of sales for the three-newspaper group, said Thursday she's looking forward to her new and enhanced role.

"Lafayette, Muncie and Richmond are three distinctively different, yet similar communities," she said. "All have people who are passionate about their community, their commitments to service and about how they get their news. I'm thrilled that we are evolving as readers change their habits and use of technology.

"I look forward to engaging with community members, business partners and our staff across the Indiana region," she added.

Lindus, an Ohio native, moved to Muncie in 1972, when she was eight years old. By 1983, she was working in the advertising department at The Muncie Star and The Muncie Evening Press, which merged into The Star Press in 1996.
