Richmond incubator sees business grow, move on

Web Canopy Studio moved into the facility at 814 E. Main St. in March 2013 with one employee. The company soon will have three full-time employees and an intern.

And now it has a new home — the former Lantz House Inn in Centerville.

When The Innovation Center was created in 2004, one of its goals was to become a feeder system for business startups that would move to into other areas of Richmond and Wayne County.

During the past 10 years, other companies have taken advantage of space at the center before moving, but Executive Director Jason Whitney said Web Canopy probably has seen the most growth.

"We've just been going like crazy," said John Aikin, who took Web Canopy to The Innovation Center after working from home with small children around started to become problematic.
