The Wayne County Council on Wednesday passed a revenue bond ordinance for Sugar Creek Packing Co. not to exceed $8.5 million.

The bond will be purchased by Sugar Creek officials, who then will use the proceeds of a Tax Increment Financing district to pay them off.

The plan is part of the incentive package by the county to help bring the Ohio meat packaging company to the Gateway Industrial Park near Cambridge City.

Sugar Creek acquired the former Really Cool Foods plant there and has begun building a 277-square-foot addition to the 77,000-square-foot existing building. The company also is planning to build a 19,000-square-foot sewage treatment plant on the site.
