Of the 10 highest paid mayors in Indiana, only one is female, according to a list released by IndyStar. Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson is actually the highest paid mayor, making $129,922 per year, IndyStar reports.
There is no correlation between the size of a city and a mayor’s salary, according to IndyStar.
South Bend Mayor Peter Buttigieg — who recently returned from service in Afghanistan — is also among the top 10, ranking fifth with a salary of $104,847. He oversees 1,100 city employees and 100,800 residents in South Bend, according to IndyStar.
