MUNCIE – While construction and disruption related to the Village Promenade student housing/retail development is winding down, more construction and disruption are coming just down the road in the same Village neighborhood.
“The McKinley Commons project is proceeding,” Ball State University spokesman Joan Todd told The Star Press. “We are still in the early phases. The university has selected an architect, SRA Architects, to begin architectural design work. Utility relocation and site preparations are under way.”
SRA is an architectural firm in Cincinnati that specializes in hospitality and hotel design.
McKinley Commons is planned as a 100-room hotel; conference center; living/learning community for hospitality, food and event management students, including housing for 51 upperclassmen; and, likely, two restaurants.
Village Promenade is a private development, while McKinley Commons is a BSU project.
The project at McKinley and University avenues will further fortify The Village commercial-residential district, which saw a $60 million investment in Village Promenade, BSU officials say.
