Terri Gillam made her way around the cafeteria Monday at Mayflower Mill Elementary School harboring new ideas for the students in her classroom.

A goodie-bag in her hand was filled with cookie sheets, magnets and books she can use to better prepare her students at Saint Lawrence Preschool.

Kindergarten is just around the corner and it's her job to prepare them, Gillam said.

Gillam was one of more than 100 preschool teachers at the fifth annual Tippecanoe School Corp. Preschool Provider Night, an event that allows participants to collaborate and interact with other preschool providers and receive teaching materials.

Vickie Pearl, TSC's director of student services, said the event is a great support system for teachers. The free event is held annually through Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which provides financial assistance to local educational agencies and schools with high percentages of children from low-income families.

"Not everyone can afford this kind of training or these materials," Pearl said.
