KENDALLVILLE — The Main Street Business Association is partnering with the Kendallville Park and Recreation Department to again present an Art on Main project.

Painted rain barrels lined the street in the downtown business district last year, and in 2013 it was windmills.

This year’s project will feature park benches on Main Street, according to Don Gura, president of the Main Street Business Association. Proceeds will support the purchase of playground equipment for the city’s park system or musical equipment for the Park and Recreation Department.

Twenty benches, 4 feet long and made of wood and steel, will be offered to artists and organizations to paint and decorate, Gura said. Distribution will begin April 1, and the benches will be on display on Main Street starting Memorial Day weekend.

The benches will be sold at auction at American Legion Post 86 during Labor Day weekend.

Organizers want each bench to be sponsored by a business, organization, civic group, family or individual. Their sponsorship will be acknowledged on a plaque attached to a bench along with the artist’s name.
