INDIANAPOLIS – A report released by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education shows that 2013 Indiana public high school graduates that chose to attend college once again chose Ivy Tech Community College by a two to one margin over any other public institution of higher education in Indiana.
The CHE’s Indiana College Readiness Report released this week indicates that nearly 28 percent of the graduates (9,458) that enrolled in public colleges or universities enrolled at Ivy Tech.
The next closest institution was Indiana University-Bloomington with 12.5 percent of the graduates. Purdue University-West Lafayette (9.8 percent), Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (9.6 percent) and Ball State University (8.8 percent) rounded out the top five schools of choice.
The 2013 graduating senior class totaled 71,123 with 65 percent attending college, while 35 percent did not attend college.
“Although we are pleased to see so many of our high school graduates selecting to continue their education at Ivy Tech, we certainly have work to do to ensure more seniors pursue a college education,” said Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder. “Ivy Tech is well positioned to serve the 35 percent of students not attending college by making higher education accessible and affordable. A K-14 education is required in order to make a middle-class wage, and Ivy Tech is a great asset to many Hoosier families, particularly when the cost of a four-year degree exceeds that of the median Indiana household income.”

In addition to being the number one choice of high school graduates, Ivy Tech of course continues to rank number one in regards to adult students enrolling in college.
