A former Bloomington microbrewery abruptly ceased operations this week, and its resulting dispute with its local sewage company has gone public.

Cutters Brewing, which began operations out of a storage unit on Curry Pike, opened under the direction of co-owners Monte Speicher, Amanda Speicher and Chris Inman in 2010.

The microbrewery later relocated to a larger, 3,500-square-foot facility in Avon in 2012, and was looking at future locations in Evansville, South Bend, and Fort Wayne, according to Herald-Times story archives.

However, the brewery suddenly closed up shop Tuesday, and pinned its demise on the Hendricks County Regional Sewer District in a Facebook post.

"Ultimately, it was our inability to come to a reasonable resolution with the sewage co., whom we believe was simply extorting us for exorbitant sums, that precipitated the decision to close," the brewery wrote.

The Hendricks County Regional Sewer District has since fired back, claiming the brewery connected to the district's utility system without authorization or notice at some point in 2012, according to a press release sent to The Herald-Times.
