NEW ALBANY — QRS Recycling is moving its paper and plastics operations out of New Albany but will keep a presence at its Floyd Street location.

Beginning March 28, all paper products that have been delivered to the New Albany facility will be transitioned to the Louisville plant at 2000 Industrial Blvd., according to a press release issued by QRS Recycling Friday afternoon. The company pledged to continue its business partnerships and recycling efforts despite the move.

Sixteen full-time employees in New Albany will lose their job as a result of the transition, but QRS Iron and Metals will remain operational at the facility.

“QRS Iron and Metals will stay at the New Albany facility, open for business just like we’ve done since 1974,” QRS CEO and owner Greg Janson said in a telephone interview Friday.

The consolidation will help St. Louis-based QRS “provide industry leading capabilities and customer service” according to the press release. The transition is expected to be complete by May 4.

All single-stream material recycling will transition to the Louisville plant beginning April 24.
