London-based Tate & Lyle today announced it will invest $65 million in expanding its Lafayette South facility.

The money will be invested by 2016 and will translate into eight new jobs and new equipment to expand local production of fructose sweetner to meet growing demand in the Americas and Asia, according to the company.

"This expansion not only allows us to stay ahead of the global demand for crystalline fructose, but also gives us the opportunity and flexibility to continue to grow within the North American and emerging markets," said Joan Braca, president of specialty food ingredients at Tate & Lyle.

The news marks the company's second expansion within the last year. A $90 million expansion to the company's Sagamore facility was announced last July.
