A new nonprofit organization — Richmond Neighborhood Restoration Inc. — has formed to revitalize and redevelop historic Richmond neighborhoods.

The group is starting its mission with one house.

“We want to improve the neighborhoods,” said Richmond Neighborhood Restoration board president Chad Stegner. “One house doesn’t solve the problem, but each house helps.”

The first project is a two-story house at 36 S. 19th St. in Richmond, which was donated to the organization by its owner, Wells Fargo Bank N.A.

Wells Fargo acquired the house in May 2014 through foreclosure. The bank donated the house to the nonprofit using the City of Richmond as a pass through with the approval of the Richmond Common Council and the Board of Works. Wells Fargo also donated $3,000 to be used for costs associated with the real estate transfer.

Tony Foster, executive director of Richmond Metropolitan Development Department, recommended that common council approve the action.
