Richmond Common Council members decided Monday night not to follow through with an initial plan to pass a non-discrimination resolution.

Council members Thursday announced they planned to adopt a resolution “respecting all human rights” in response to the battle in the Indiana General Assembly and the fallout after passage of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

But that changed Monday night when council members elected not to adopt a local resolution.

“After the clarifying language that the Legislature adopted last week, we decided not to pass the resolution,” said council president Ron Oler. “We were not sure how much the city can do since the courts would follow the state law.
