It’s a great time to be a graduate. Especially if you’re tech-savvy.

Nearly 20,000 students across Indiana University’s seven campuses will receive a degree this weekend. They’ve worked four (or more) years to achieve their academic goals, and now comes a well-earned commencement celebration.

But once all is done with pomp and circumstance — diplomas properly framed on the wall — experts say the most tech-savvy graduation class yet has a favorable job market waiting.

More than 55 percent of all employers say they plan to hire more in spring 2015, according to a National Association of Colleges and Employers report.

That’s 9.6 percent more than employers expected to hire from the Class of 2014.

“It feels like the technology exposure that these new grads are getting throughout their college careers, they have more exposure than graduates did in 2008,” said Sonda Sorg, a metro marketing manager for Robert Half, an international recruiting and job placement firm.

Sorg has spent 18 years researching the Indianapolis, Columbus and Bloomington hiring markets with Robert Half.
