MONTICELLO — A new aquatically themed area is coming to Indiana Beach this summer that will include a wave pool and water slides.

The amusement park's Beach Bay will have a 25,000-square-foot wave pool, racing slides, a bowl slide, cabanas and a new bathhouse.

Dubbed The Breakers at Beach Bay, the 800,000-gallon wave pool will be the centerpiece of the new area located adjacent to the park's north entrance.

Don Hurd, vice president of marketing at Indiana Beach, said he expects the new features to be a hit with visitors this summer.

"I think people are really going to enjoy spending some lazy-summer time with the waves," Hurd said.

Aquatic Development Group out of Cohoes, N.Y., is developing the wave pool. The company tackles pool projects across the country and developed the ocean setting for the 2012 film "Life of Pi," most of which takes place in a lost-at-sea lifeboat. The film won the Academy Award for best visual effects in 2013.

"People are really going to be surprised how well this looks," Hurd said.

He added Beach Bay is projected to open in early July.
