LINCOLN CITY — A 2014 National Park Service report shows that nearly 100,000 visitors spent $4.6 million in Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial and in communities near the park last year.

That money supported 76 jobs in the area and had a $6.2 million benefit to the local economy.

“The people and the business owners in communities near national parks have always known their economic value,” park superintendent Kendell Thompson said in a press release. “Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is clean, green fuel for the engine that drives our local economy.”

According to the 2014 report, 31 percent of park visitor spending nationwide was for lodging, followed by 20 percent for food and beverages, 12 percent for gas and oil, 10 percent for admissions and fees and 10 percent for souvenirs and other expenses.
