A promised meeting to solicit public input on the Mounds Lakereservoir proposal will be held next week.

Delaware County Council will hold a special meeting 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 18 at Heartland Hall at the Delaware County Fairgrounds to “receive public comment” on the reservoir proposal.

County council, like other government bodies in Delaware and Madison counties, might ultimately vote on joining a Mounds Lake Commission to oversee the next steps in the years-long reservoir project, but officials said Monday they don’t expect council to take a vote during the May 18 meeting.

Council member Mike Jones confirmed Monday that council would not vote at the fairgrounds meeting.

“This is for public input only,” Jones told The Star Press. “There aren’t any questions or answers planned.”

For months, almost every meeting of the Delaware County commissioners and Delaware County Council has been attended by opponents of the project, which would see White River dammed in Anderson to back up to near Yorktown and create a reservoir. In many of those meetings, opponents and proponents have expressed their opinions on the project.

But with both sides anticipating a vote by officials in both counties to join the Mounds Lake Commission — or not — county council president Chris Matchett has said in recent meetings of the county’s fiscal body that he would schedule a meeting to receive public input.
