SELLERSBURG — Poised for growth, Sellersburg is hiring a professional consultant to help attract new businesses to its town of 6,100.

Sellersburg’s town council and redevelopment commission each voted unanimously to hire The Wheatley Group LLC to advise the town how to best use revenue from its single TIF, or tax increment finance, district.

The contract is $14,000 for the rest of the year to be paid on a monthly basis at $2,000. Half of the salary will come from TIF money and the other half will come out of the town’s contract services line item fund.

Paul Wheatley, former marketing and finance director for River Ridge Commerce Center, helped oversee the use of TIF dollars for the Clark County industrial park.

He said Sellersburg has been “really proactive” in developing its TIF district.

“There are new revenues starting to come into that TIF, and they’re looking for someone to assist them with redevelopment activities,” said Wheatley, who lives and works out of Sellersburg.

The contract is a reduction from Wheatley’s original proposal of $40,000 that he pitched in March.
