While Indiana Gov. Mike Pence was in China promoting the state’s RV industry, other politicians told industry leaders of their work to promote RV production a little closer to home.

Pence and Recreational Vehicle Industry Association representatives hosted a reception at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing on Tuesday, May 12, featuring three travel trailers and a motorhome built in Indiana.

“With the current popularity of RVs in China, tonight was a great opportunity to discuss how more Chinese people can fully enjoy the open road and the great outdoors with an Indiana-made vehicle,” Pence stated in a news release.

More than 100 Chinese government officials, campground owners and RV dealers attended the event, where Pence called on the Chinese government to reduce import duties and taxes levied on RVs so that more of the country can enjoy the RV lifestyle.

China is the world’s second-largest RV market and Chinese consumers have spent about $68 million on American-made RVs in the last two years, according to the news release.
