The Purdue University Board of Trustees on Friday endorsed student fee rates for the next two academic years, holding the line on student housing and meal plan costs in 2015-16 and freezing tuition through 2016-17.

The 2016-2017 school year will mark the fourth consecutive year Purdue has frozen tuition, which has cost $10,002 for in-state students, $28,804 for out-of-state students and $30,804 for international students since 2012-13.

Using the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s recommended 1.65 percent increase, in-state tuition and out-of-state tuition could have risen to about $10,167 and $29,279, respectively, in 2015-16 and $10,334 and $29,762, respectively, in 2016-17 had no freeze been implemented.

Room and board costs on average will remain at $9,414 — the same as last year and down from $9,654 in 2013-14 and $9,700 in 2012-13.

The board also approved the university’s budget for fiscal year 2016, which factors in a 3.5 percent merit-based pay raise for faculty and bumps up to $10 entry-level pay for full-time service and clerical staff.

The measures await final approval from the board’s executive committee May 27.
