PENDLETON — Remy International officials announced today the company has been purchased by BorgWarner for $1.2 billion.

Remy's international headquarters is located in Pendleton and produces electrical components for vehicles, including alternators and starters. The company also has a product launch center in Anderson.

BorgWarner, located in Auburn Hills, Mich., develops and sells turbochargers for vehicles and specializes in power train technology.

At the end of June, Remy employed 87 people at its Anderson launch center and 357 at company headquarters in Pendleton.

Company spokesman Shawn Pallagi said it's too soon to know how the sale will affect employees.

"It's too early to tell at this point," Pallagi said. "We'll have a better idea in 60 to 90 days, when the deal is finalized."
