ANDERSON -- Indiana's Horse Racing Commission has terminated its contract with a California lab after an audit found the lab had missed seven positive drug tests of race horses at Hoosier Park and Indiana Grand racinos in a 26-day span.

Truesdail Laboratory, based in Tustin, Calif., has a contract to test for drugs at Indiana's two racetracks in Anderson and Shelbyville. In an audit conducted by the HRC, a laboratory in Colorado found banned substances in seven samples Truesdail had determined as clean.

The report states Truesdail was asked to test some of the samples again and still were unable to detect any illegal substances.

HRC Executive Director Joe Gorajec will present the report today at the HRC's meeting. He says in the report, the failure to identify ritalinic acid, a drug that greatly enhances racing performance, was the most troubling miss from Truesdail.

The audit was conducted with samples from horses racing at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino and Indiana Grand.

Industrial Laboratory, based in Denver, is now handling the racehorse testing.
