Cook Pharmica aims to expand Bloomington’s impact on the biopharmaceutical industry by adding 70 new jobs by the year 2020.

The privately held contract development and manufacturing organization plans to invest $28 million to renovate and equip its Bloomington facility. A new line of drug products will join the company’s move to insert drug product into syringes, vials and cartridges for Cook Pharmica’s clients by 2017, the company announced in a news release issued by the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

“Cook was founded in Bloomington more than a half century ago, and we are thrilled to continue our company’s deep connection with the state of Indiana and the city of Bloomington,” said Tedd Green, president of Cook Pharmica, in the news release.

In April, the Bloomington City Council approved a 10-year tax abatement and $250,000 from the Bloomington Industrial Development Fund for the expansion. Council members were told the 70 jobs would add $3.2 million in new salaries three years after the expansion is completed.
