The TRIO program at Ivy Tech Community College Northeast received a grant of $1,155,515 that it will use over a five-year period to expand support services for low-income, first-generation and disabled college students.

The aim of the program is to increase students’ retention and graduation rates, facilitate their transfer from two-year to four-year colleges, and foster an institutional climate supportive of their success. Services include tutoring, financial literacy instruction and course selection assistance.

The funds were awarded through the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs. TRIO serves about 160 students each year at Ivy Tech Northeast. Without the funds to renew the program, it would have closed.
