ANDERSON — Harvest Supermarkets is closing its store on Columbus Avenue, leaving Anderson with just two Harvest stores inside city limits.

President and CEO Roy Kipp said the store will close for good after business hours on Friday, Aug. 28. Kipp said employees were told on Tuesday that the store would be shutting down. All employees will be offered jobs at other Harvest Supermarket stores. The store also changed its hours. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until the store closes.

The company is in the process of updating and remodeling several of iots stores in Madison County and elsewhere in central Indiana. Kipp said when it came time to remodel the Columbus Avenue store, a market analysis determined the store didn't get enough business to justify a store overhaul.

"The independent analysis determined sales wouldn't get us a return on investment," Kipp said. "Though it is never easy to make a decision to close a store, it is in the best interest of the company."

Kipp claims shutting down the store doesn't mean the company is in any kind of trouble. Harvest just recently remodeled its store in Alexandria and is planning to remodel its store on Scatterfield Road in the near future.
