This is a rendering of the planned new Memorial Health & Lifestyle Center at Capital Avenue and Beacon Parkway in Mishawaka. Beacon Health System is proposing a $15 million fitness center that would also be available to members who currently use the Jefferson Boulevard fitness center in downtown South Bend. Little has changed in the four months Beacon Parkway has been open. Motorists wind around gentle curves along just less than a mile of roadway that is outlined by ornamental streetlights and dissects hundreds of acres of quiet farmland.
Quiet for now, at least.
Similar to the way Edison Lakes developed over time in Mishawaka, Beacon Parkway is expected to take shape slowly and deliberately between Capital Avenue and Fir Road.
The corridor actually was built to somewhat mimic the upscale Edison Lakes office park to the south, and any new buildings must meet the city's specific high-quality architectural standards and landscaping requirements.
Fitting the corridor name, Beacon Health System is expected to break ground in the weeks ahead on the first project. Pending final city approvals, a $15 million Memorial Health & Lifestyle Center will be built on the southwest corner of Capital and Beacon Parkway.
The 74,000-square-foot medical fitness center will be slightly smaller than its counterpart on Jefferson Boulevard in downtown South Bend. But the center will house a full-service fitness center, sports medicine center, physical therapy services and a sports performance clinic.
