SOUTH BEND — The government domains for the cities of South Bend and Mishawaka have been tied to the leak of email addresses from spouse-cheating website Ashley Madison.

According to an unverified list of email domains posted by an anonymous Internet watchdog, numerous state and local email domains across Indiana were allegedly used to register for the site.

Included among those domains are southbendin.gov, the domain for South Bend city accounts and mishawaka.in.gov, the domain for Mishawaka city accounts.

“The city is looking into the matter, but cannot comment on personnel issues," South Bend city spokesperson Kara Kelly said in a statement Friday.

One of the accounts linked to the site belongs to South Bend City Clerk and at-large Common Council candidate John Voorde.

“Back before I knew how to get on the Internet, before I had any electronic devices of my own, before I had any email addresses, out of curiosity I got on that site and used the only thing I had access to, which was my city (email) address,” Voorde said Friday.

He said he understood he should not have used his city account.

“No matter what I say it doesn’t justify the fact it was on a city account or … gloss over the rest of it,” he said.
