For the art enthusiast and the cultural connoisseur, the Indiana University Art Museum is a one stop location in Southern Indiana where visitors can explore artwork by Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Claude Monet.

Less than 50 miles away, the museum houses over 45,000 pieces of original art, and their encyclopedic collections contains artwork from all across the globe.

Admission to museum is free.

Abe Morris of the Indiana University Art Museum said the museum was designed by world-renowned architect I.M. Pei.

"[Pei] also designed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, the pyramid at the Louvre museum in Paris, and the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston," Morris said.

Morris explained one of the central missions of the museum is to utilize the art collection for educational purposes.

"In 2014, our education department conducted over 1,200 tours for over 17,000 visitors. Included among those were almost 4,000 school children grades K-12 from not just Bloomington, but Evansville, Franklin, Orleans, Spencer, North Vernon, Campbellsburg, and many other communities across southern Indiana," Morris said.

One way the Indiana University Art Museum enables neighboring schools to visit is by offering school bus vouchers to help schools pay for students to visit the museum.

"Our educational tours present a wonderful opportunity for schools in your area, and the museum presents a wonderful day trip destination for anybody looking to get out and explore what southern Indiana has to offer.

"Tours can be scheduled by anyone with a little advance notice." Morris said.

The galleries are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays and all major national holidays.
