Assaf Dagan says he fell in love with The State theater when he purchased the downtown South Bend building out of foreclosure in December 2011.
And his feelings haven't changed.
In fact, Dagan recently put the theater on the market for sale because he wants a new owner, developer or business partner to take the project to the next level.
He wants to see the theater succeed.
The State theater is listed for just under $1.5 million by Bradley Co. of South Bend.
"I'm not selling it because I want to sell it," says Dagan, president of Banko Capital, which is based in Mishawaka. "I feel I did what I could to help bring it back to its glory from the past. Now we need someone local, someone in the market, to put more effort and time into it."
And he hopes to be a partner in that effort.
Dagan is selling the entire 41,865-square-foot, three-story building at 212-218 S. Michigan St., including the theater and three street-level commercial spaces rented by Idle Hours bookstore, Indiana Rug and South Bend Brew Werks.
