MUNCIE — Ball State University's creation of a College of Health is being called "momentous" and "monumental."

"I would point out that this is a generational decision, in my opinion," Provost Terry King told the university's board of trustees at a recent meeting. "These new colleges don't get created very often. If you look back in the history of Ball State University, you will look at some momentous decisions to create a College of Fine Arts (CoFA), or a College of Architecture and Planning (CAP), or a College of Communication, Information and Media (CCIM). I think people would agree today that these were the right decisions to make. We also think this is the right decision to make."

CAP is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, as is the Miller College of Business. CoFA was established in 1983, around the same time as the College of Applied Sciences and Technology. Inaugural ceremonies for CCIM were in 1997. Ball State's only other colleges are Teachers College and the College of Sciences and Humanities.

The state Legislature this year approved BSU's request for $62.5 million to construct a building to house the new College of Health.
