Fans of the Scholars Inn Gourmet Cafe & Wine Bar, downtown or eastside Bakehouse cafes or bags of their Bakehouse Granola can rest easy at the Scholars Inn Bed & Breakfast. But perhaps not for long.

Lyle and Kerry Feigenbaum, co-owners of the many Scholars Inn institutions throughout Bloomington, have decided to place the first of their businesses up for auction. The Scholars Inn Bed & Breakfast, at 801 N. College Ave., bundled with office spaces at 805 and 807 N. College Ave., has been listed in an online auction through United Country Real Estate.

"A lot of it had to do with a manager we had last year that wasn’t so strong, and it caused so much stress for my wife. Every morning, she’d get a phone call if someone didn’t show up, and she’d have to go and make breakfast," said co-owner Lyle Feigenbaum. "To run it as a bed and breakfast, it’s kind of overwhelming for us, and there’s a lot of other hotels in downtown Bloomington."

Feigenbaum said that with having to oversee things like breakfast while managing multiple locations and dealing with the stress of shepherding their kids through high school, he and his wife have had plenty on their plate.

Established in 1996, the bed and breakfast was the flagship location for a series of successful businesses throughout the city. The auction for this four-parcel plot of land located five blocks from downtown is currently happening online, and will run until 2 p.m. on Nov. 10.
