District 62 Republican Matt Ubelhor is leaving the House of Representatives just as the 2016 legislative session is about to kick off.

Ubelhor, assistant majority whip, announced today that he will resign effective Dec. 1. to focus on business opportunities. The three-term House member, first elected in 2010, could not be reached for comment.

In a statement, Ubelhor said he will continue supporting conservative politicians and will “keep the door open” for other opportunities to serve the state.

House District 62 covers most of Greene County and portions of Monroe, Martin and Daviess counties. Ubelhor served on several committees, including public policy, natural resources and ways and means.
