A local organic farming operation just added some new “life” to its company this week.

Greenfield-based Husk, which had produced locally-grown frozen vegetables since 2013, announced Wednesday that the company had been acquired by Lifeline Farmsof Connersville.

The company, founded by Chris Baggott and Nick Carter, had produced locally-grown frozen vegetables which had found their way into more than 300 grocery stores across the Midwest, along with branching out into the realm of soups, sauces and other products.

The plans for Husk, with its acquisition by Lifeline Farms, is for Lifeline Farms and its owner, Alex Carroll, to “further vertically integrate the business into its existing vegetable production and processing enterprise,” according to a statement from the Husk company Wednesday.

It was not disclosed how much Husk was acquired for by Lifeline Farms, which began operation itself in Connersville back in spring 2014, when ground was broken on its facility on Indiana 1 north of the city.

The acquisition illustrates the focus of Lifeline Farms, and its owner Carroll, which he voiced back in March 2014 upon the groundbreaking of the business.

“That is the future of agriculture,” Carroll said at that time.

The company’s goal is to produce not only vegetables, but also branch out into aquaculture in the near future.
