Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health will have a major presence at the planned new Lafayette YMCA.

The Lafayette Family YMCA announced Thursday that its new facility set to be built next to Ivy Tech's Lafayette campus will be named the Franciscan YMCA, and will have physicians on-site and free childcare services for Franciscan patients.

"(It) is an opportunity for our healthcare to expand, to put new physicians, and grow a practice, here on the southeast side of town," said Terry Wilson, president and CEO of Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health.

Construction will begin this summer on the 100,000-square-foot facility, which will be open to the public in December 2017, said Lafayette Family YMCA CEO Paul Cramer.

Four primary care doctors, a sports medicine physician and physical and occupational therapy services will be available at the new center. Franciscan rehabilitation patients will also have free access to the Y for a month.

Wilson said the hospital's space in the new complex will help recruit young, talented physicians and physical therapists to the area, which he said is becoming increasingly difficult to do.
