City staff are vetting an initial draft of an update to the document that helps guide how officials direct and manage growth.

Tom Micuda, who heads the city’s planning and transportation department, told those in attendance at a town hall meeting Friday evening that his department is circulating a draft of the Growth Policies Plan update within City Hall to get internal input for now, with public discussion to follow later this year.

The update has been part of an ongoing process for a couple of years and looks ahead to 2040, Micuda said. The last update to the plan, which serves as the comprehensive plan for the city, took place in 2005.

“It’s very much a visionary document,” he said. “It’s sort of a general vision, a general road map for where we want the community to go.”
