ANDERSON – Indiana is now focusing through the Regional Cities Initiative on making communities more attractive to the younger generation, Jim president of the Indiana Economic Development Corp., said.

Schellinger visited Anderson on Wednesday morning to meet with the local Corporation for Economic Development and Madison County Board of Realtors at the Flagship Enterprise Center.

“During the past four years we worked to make Indiana a destination for business,” he said. “We now want to make cities better in terms of quality of place for the younger generation.”

Schellinger said the state is providing $126 million to three regions in the state and it will attract $3.78 billion in private investment.

When asked what companies are looking at when considering locating in a community, Schellinger said companies look for access to interstates, workforce and education.

He said what Indiana lacks currently is people in the workforce that have obtained a high school diploma and go on to a two or four year degree.

“Anderson is poised for greatness in the future,” Schellinger said when asked about future funding for Certified Technology Parks in the state, one of which is the Flagship.

He said the Purdue Polytechnic Institute that will open in Anderson this fall is a project that will bring growth to not only Madison County but for the region.
