AUBURN — Auctions America sold nearly $7.2 million worth of collector cars and automotive memorabilia during its annual Auburn Spring sale last weekend.

The sale total represents a 40 percent increase over 2015, the Auburn-based company said. It reported that 80 percent of all sales lots changed hands.

“The weather was certainly on our side for the Auburn Spring weekend, bringing record crowds and high energy across all three days of the event,” said Megan Boyd, a car specialist for Auctions America.

Bidders came from 36 states and 12 countries, with more than 30 percent of them representing first-time clients.

Out of some 400 vehicles that passed through the auction arena, the top-seller of the event was a red 1968 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 at $247,500, including a 10 percent buyer’s premium.

To coincide with appearances from Wayne Carini of Velocity’s “Chasing Classic Cars,” Auctions America presented two cars in support of autism research and education — causes close to Carini’s heart. Together, a 1966 Dodge Monaco and a 2006 Ford Shelby tribute raised $20,900 to benefit Autism Speaks and the Treasure Coast Autism Project.

Auctions America offered a Hot Wheels car on behalf of a 13-year-old, next-generation collector named Liam, who was raising funds for the Friends of Kids with Cancer organization. Generous bidders paid $3,000 for the toys, donating the cars back twice to raise a total of $9,000 for the cause, with additional funds contributed by Auburn Spring visitors throughout the weekend.
