A Logansport official announced Cal-Comp Indiana's local plant laid off about 100 employees while the company remains tight-lipped on the matter.
Logansport Mayor Dave Kitchell announced the manufacturer's layoffs in a press release issued Thursday night. The release cites Charles Brown, director of operations for Cal-Comp's Logansport plant, as indicating "the layoffs affect employees working on a line for one customer and its supply chain."
Brown and other Cal-Comp executives did not return requests for comment for this story.
Kitchell's press release states Brown said some employees may be able to return to Cal-Comp in October.
The local plant manufactures electronic assemblies for customers in the aerospace, automotive, communications, defense, industrial controls, medical, renewable energy, security and transportation markets, according to its website.
Cal-Comp employed just over 400 locally before the layoffs, according to Kitchell's press release.
Region 4 Workforce Board is hosting Rapid Response Dislocated Worker Orientation sessions for laid-off Cal-Comp employees from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, in the Community Center at Ivy Tech Community College, 1 Ivy Tech Way, Logansport.
Chris Waymire, Rapid Response Coordinator for Dislocated Worker Services with the Region 4 Workforce Board, said the orientations will include information on unemployment insurance, how to file a petition with the U.S. Department of Labor, job retraining and transition, case management and other services.
