ANDERSON – The Anderson Redevelopment Commission has established three priorities through 2017 for the use of Tax Increment Financing dollars.

The three strategic priorities adopted by the Anderson Redevelopment Commission (ARC) unanimously on Tuesday include the Nichol and Raible avenue corridor; clean up and development of former industrial brownfield sites; and continued improvements in downtown Anderson.

Kevin Sulc, president of the ARC, said the priorities are not necessarily those of Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr. or the staff of the Anderson Economic Development Department.

Sulc said the ARC didn’t want to preclude considering projects outside the three strategic priority areas in the future.

He said the ARC members will have to develop goals for each of the priorities in the future.

“The projects should create jobs for citizens of Anderson, increase taxes for the Anderson Community School Corporation, spur community collaboration, spur the real estate market in a manner which increases taxes, beautify the city for the existing community and incoming employees and their families, and provide needed infrastructure,” the document reads.

The ARC also wants to have $4 to $5 million in non-committed funds for unanticipated opportunities to further redevelopment in the target areas.
