A new nonprofit focused on advancing the economic, community and educational growth of 11 southwest-central Indiana counties will begin offering graduation and career coaches at area high schools in an effort to improve graduation rates and prepare students for the higher education and technical training they will need to enter the workforce.
Lilly Endowment provided nonprofit Regional Opportunity Initiatives with a $25,870,000 grant in December as part of a larger initiative to improve Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, Owen and Washington counties. Residents of these counties have long needed a boost in economic prosperity and quality of life, local stakeholders found while researching and collecting data on the 11-county area.
Starting in the fall, five new graduation and career coaches will work throughout the Bloomfield School District, Crawford County Community Schools, Loogootee Community Schools, Salem Community Schools, Spencer-Owen Community Schools and Washington Community Schools.
