Indiana will designate its 2016 Stellar Communities Aug. 18 at the state fair, and the City of Warsaw is one of three finalists vying for the honor in its category.

To inform the local community about the proposed projects the city has in mind as part of the Stellar Communities Program, and to gather input, Warsaw has created a Facebook page under “Warsaw + Winona Lake A Stellar Connection.”
Another project that is part of the City of Warsaw’s Stellar Communities application is a cycle track.

A cycle track through downtown Warsaw will connect the community with a world class biking and walking trail.

According to information from the Planning Department, “Our community has experienced amazing trail growth in the past, and those trails connect amazing assets. Our area’s natural beauty is highlighted, along with core neighborhoods, schools, parks and destinations. Now, we have the opportunity to link all of it together through a downtown connection. This opportunity will bring together the amazing growth of downtown Warsaw and The Village at Winona in a way that is more than the sum of its parts. This connection, will be truly stellar.”

The goals of the cycle track are to:

• Complete the main 7.4-mile trail route connecting the community
• Connect all of the major trails
• Link recreation assets together
• Provide transportation options for residents
• Create a safe, family friendly trail route to and through downtown
• Maintain the same level of access for downtown residents, visitors and businesses
• Increase downtown property value and drive economic growth
• Build quality of life assets that encourage more downtown residents and businesses.
