WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University students who hope to study abroad in the United Kingdom could have a cheaper trip thanks the U.K.'s vote Thursday to ditch the European Union.

The split, referred to as "Brexit," mainly affects the U.S. in regards to the stock market, but it also has the potential to impact Americans when they travel abroad.

The British pound fell to a 31-year low early Friday, dropping from $1.50 to less than $1.35 as results showed the U.K. was positioned to leave the EU, USA TODAY reported.

Although it's still unclear how the pound will fare in the future due to the exit, there's a good chance American travelers will be able to get more bang for their buck in British countries.

And that could entice more Purdue students to study there.
