ELKHART — File this under a good problem to have.

Several RV manufacturers are having a hard time finding qualified workers to staff their plants with Elkhart County's unemployment rate around 3.5 percent. Some notable RV makers in the area have been complaining about the issue to the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, saying this is a huge issue.

Kyle Hannon, president of the chamber, said as a result numerous positions at Elkhart County RV plants simply aren't being filled, according to our news parters at ABC57. He hears from manufacturers from a variety of industries in the county who are trying to expand or even just meet demand, but there aren't enough workers to do so.

“That’s the big challenge among all the employers out in Elkhart County right now is where do you find the workers, can you get the workers you need,” Hannon told ABC57.

Dicor Corp. President Gregg Fore said his company is seeing a steady stream of applicants, but not all of them are a good fit. Punctuality has been an issue at Osolo Township-based Dicor, which produces components for RVs and other industries.

“We expect you to be there every day regardless of whether it’s Friday or Monday,” Fore told ABC57.

Fore said drug tests are also an issue, with an applicant failing a drug test at Dicor, on average, every day.
