The Crawfordsville City Council unanimously approved a number of tax abatements at their meeting Monday night.

Eight companies had requested abatements from the city. All eight resolutions were forwarded to the full council with favorable recommendations from the fiscal affairs committee last week.

Only one abatement is new. Indiana Municipal Power Agency has applied for a 10-year abatement on the 11,850 panel solar farm facility on Memorial Drive. Like other 10-year abatements, the amount of the abatement will drop by 10 percent each year. IMPA’s investment was estimated at $5.1 million.

Other businesses asking for continued abatements are Random House, RR Donnelley, Temple Inland, MPG Crawfordsville, L.P. (Wellbrooke), Closure Systems International, Crawford Industries and Crown Cork & Seal. CSI has five abatements and RR Donnelley has three.

City Director of Planning & Community Development Brandy Allen said Monday night that all of the requesting companies were in substantial compliance.

Allen said last week that the city, along with new Chamber Director Tom Utley, visited all applying companies before making a recommendation to the city council. She said that there could still be a few more tax abatement applications come before the city council later this month.

All eight resolutions were passed without discussion other than Allen saying the company was in substantial compliance.
